The Learning Experience to Add 9 Locations Throughout Florida

Franchise8

When you think of franchises, fast food restaurants may come to mind. While they are the most popular type of franchise, there are plenty others around. Day centers can also be franchises.

The Learning Experience, a chain of day care centers, is a franchise that is looking toward expansion. The chain plans to add nine locations across Florida in the next two years.

The chain, which is headquartered in Deerfield Beach, plans 20 new centers in Florida in total. Each will be 10,000 square feet and include a 5,000-square-foot playground.

The nine locations for the upcoming The Learning Experience centers are Fort Myers, Zephyrhills, North Port, Lakeland, Lutz, Land ‘O Lakes, Palmetto, Spring Hill, and Estero. All nine sites are in varying stages of the permitting and building process.

When opened, each center employs 30 people, including teachers. They can have up to 180 students from 6 weeks of age to 6 years old.

The Learning Experience currently has more than 600 centers open or in development. It operates both franchise- and corporate-owned locations.

When looking where to place a new center The Learning Experience’s real estate team looks at several factors, including:

  • Daytime population of the surrounding area.
  • Population of children under the age of 6 in a 1-, 3- and 5-mile radius.
  • Average household incomes within those same areas.
  • Traffic patterns.

The Learning Experience’s built-to-suit requirements include freestanding parcels with 40 parking spaces on 1-acre to 2-acre parcels. The lease term is 15 years plus options.

What Makes a Good Franchise?

When it comes to choosing a franchise, there are many options available. However, some are more likely to be profitable than others. What makes a good franchise? Here are some factors to consider:

  • Proven business model. The concept should already work in multiple locations, not just one standout store. Consistent revenue, repeat customers, and demand in different markets matter.
  • Strong brand recognition. People should recognize and trust the brand before they walk in. A recognizable name lowers marketing costs and speeds up customer acquisition.
  • Clear systems and training. Great franchises give you a playbook, such as operations manuals, onboarding, ongoing training, and tech systems that make running the business repeatable, even with new staff.
  • Franchisee support. Look for hands-on support: site selection, marketing help, supply chain access, and responsive corporate leadership. If support disappears after you sign, that is a red flag.
  • Scalable and defensible. The best franchises are easy to scale and hard to copy. Simple operations, steady demand, and some competitive advantage help protect your investment.
  • Happy franchisees. Talk to existing owners. If they would buy in again, that is a great sign. High turnover or lots of lawsuits? Walk away.
